The SalteenzTwo years before Vancouver's The Salteens formed, Victoria rock and roll stalwarts Kim Stewart and Ed Dobek created The Salteenz - Canada's premiere whistling cover band. The result was like an unholy marriage between Phil Spector and Roger Whittaker. The Salteenz' labour of love consisted of three gems - Something Stupid, , and the medley (included here). Mid-project, Dobek left Victoria for Edmonton where he set up Khubla Khan studios. Dobek rounded out the Salteenz limited-edition debut release with a 60 minute remix of one verse of an unknown children's song. |

Parlour StepsThe Smiths meet Dave Brubeck? Huey Lewis' Montparnasse phase? Okay, none of the above but The Parlour Steps leave behind their post-rock trappings for the smartest college radio hit of 2001. Unfortunately, this hot-off-the-presses gem wont be released anytime soon. The sophmoric release with the working title of "Flesh Toilet" is half finished and collecting dust while kid genius (songwriter, producer and lead singer) Caleb Stull is busy discovering the inner workings of the universe in a Thai opium den. |

Magic AssThe beginning of the Magic Ass experience. Composer Brock Ellis says, "I wanted something that was smooth and easy listening, and then drop some 'off' chords in there. Something that makes more sense the more you listen to it. Hugely influenced by the Roland Rhythm arranger." |
